You can watch our most recent firing, the temperature is updated once every minute during a firing. Originally developed to better document our firings and to give an advanced warning for when things are going array. Shared to share knowledge and the joy often missed when watching your work being fired.

Our Kiln

We have an electric kiln, a typical firing takes most of a day to heat up and about the same amount of time to cool down.

Our firings are tracked by a pyrometer (sort of like a high temperature thermometer) connected to a controller that controls the speed and temperature of the firing. The pyrometer offers the live temperature inside the kiln. We use this in combination with cones that measured how much heat has been applied over the total firing. you can find out more about cones here. The cones we use in our firings are cone 06 for a bisque firing and cone 6 for a glaze firing. â€‹â€‹
